Preoperative Rather Than Postoperative Intra-Articular Cartilage Degeneration Affects Long-Term Survivorship of Periacetabular Osteotomy

Purpose To determine whether intra-articular lesions changed in short-term follow-up after periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) and the lesion changes impacted long-term survivorship of PAO. Methods We reviewed patients with hip dysplasia who underwent PAO arthroscopic observation between 1990 2001. Patients second-look arthroscopy were included. The correlations outcome analyzed for >10 years follow-up. possible risk factors included demographic (age, sex, body mass index), radiographic (Tönnis grade, lateral center-edge angle, Tönnis acetabular head index, crossover sign, posterior wall joint congruity), findings (full-thickness at time arthroscopy). Results A total 64 (72 hips) studied. Second-look was performed a median 1.4 Intra-articular observed 93% acetabulum, 81% femoral head, 97% labrum, respectively.
